Trapped

The white noises consumed every frequency
Static
No transmission
Hissing pixels
Racing across the screen
Echoing unhurriedly
100 mile per hour winds tore at it all
Its howling voice entered every windows crack
Tugged at every hinged
Swept every floorboard
Persistent on getting in
Until ceiling met foundation
This event – terrifying - crumbled nations
The earth danced beneath me
Swallowing cities whole
With a monstrous appetite too big for one continent alone
Dormant volcanoes stretched from slumber
As ash and gas filled the air
Magma trailed the streets
Convulsing repeatedly
These trees bowed before me
They screamed of the torment
Broke from their involvement
And separated from their root
Curtsying forcefully
The disarray of nature around me
Animals knew not what to do
Birds flew in circles
Caged beasts grew violent confessing something they knew
Standing still in time
I watched as the tides met the shore
As the once standing structures stood tall no more
What if this storm never ends?
If day to night was lightening strike
Of a toddler’s scribbles sketching across the sky
Misconstrued as flashing lights from the aliens above
Of pictures taken of the earth below
These terrifying notions
With their beauty ever so deeply hidden
Questioning our existence
As if we were ever alone in the beginning
Safety: a mirage my fearful soul fabricated
To cope with the truth
That it is here
Wrap in the conversations of the night
Center of attention from the eyes staring down
The attention be it overwhelming
Finally it is here
Face to face
You and I.

Horns

Hands balled to a fist
Bounded by the wrist
Dragged off to the darkness
Where monsters do exist
Lion headed tail hiss
Deep within the mist
Vengeance never satisfied
Consumed by the abyss
Tortured by the beast
Today accepts this feast
Screams in his head
New confessions for the priest
Flesh ripped to a fleece
Another crossed off the list
A life for a life
Karma loves a twist
