It sets in
Slowly and purposefully
Eating away at the ligaments
Once binding sanity.
Unaware of the effects
From this mental atrophy.
Its actions are malicious
Numbing rationality
Ceasing objectivity
Leaving one vulnerable
Open for infection.
The truth no longer consoles
And is as far fetched
As the alternate versions
The mind conjures.
What needs to be said
That has not been said already?
How many ways must one rephrase
The justification of innocence?
The virus is incurable
Once the mutation has begun
Genetically changes the strain
Stronger and faster
The potential catalyst is full blown
The symptoms are clearly shown
Patient zero is unknown
The outbreak has grown.
